Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) helps patients understand the interaction of thoughts, feelings and behaviors. CBT is generally short-term, focused on the "here and now" and concentrated on helping an individual deal with a specific problem. During the course of treatment, the patient will learn how to identify and change destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on mood and behavior.
